Grand Energy Company Limited is Uganda's premier integrated energy company. We are not just project developers; we are architects of the nation's energy transition.
To be the leading and most trusted integrated energy partner in East Africa, driving sustainable industrialization and economic prosperity through innovative, reliable and diversified energy solutions.
To build and operate a diversified energy portfolio that meets Uganda's growing demand with clean, reliable power; to offer a full spectrum of project delivery models-EPC, EPC+F, BOT, and EPCM+F tailored to the unique needs of our clients and partners; to champion the principles of the Local Content Act 2022, creating lasting value for Ugandan communities through employment, local procurement, and skills transfer; and to be a catalyst for innovation, integrating cutting-edge energy storage and smart grid technologies to ensure grid stability and energy security.
Grand Energy Company Limited was founded with a clear and ambitious purpose- to bridge the gap between energy demand and supply in Uganda. Recognizing the country's immense potential and its pressing need for diversified, reliable power, we set out to become a one-stop-shop for energy solutions.
Our journey is defined by strategic foresight and a proactive approach to the nation's energy challenges. In October 2025, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) issued Notice No. 002 of 2025, temporarily suspending new licenses for grid-connected solar PV and wind projects because the grid absorption ceiling of 200 MW had been fully committed. However, ERA explicitly stated it would prioritize projects that incorporate hybrid systems or energy storage technologies. This was not a barrier for us, it was an opportunity. We structured our flagship Nwoya project as a hybrid Solar PV + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), transforming it from a simple intermittent generator into a dispatchable grid-stabilizing asset. This strategic pivot has positioned us at the forefront of Uganda's energy transition.
Beyond solar, our vision encompasses the full spectrum of power generation. We are actively pursuing opportunities in hydro, wind, and exploring the potential of nuclear and waste-to-energy to create a truly resilient energy mix. With our headquarters in Kampala, our team combines deep local knowledge with world-class engineering and project finance expertise.
>At Grand Energy Company Limited, our strength lies in the collective expertise, vision, and dedication of our leadership team. Comprising seasoned professionals with decades of combined experience across the energy sector, our leaders bring deep technical knowledge, financial acumen, and a steadfast commitment to sustainable development. Together, we are driving Uganda's energy transformation with integrity, innovation, and purpose.

Solar PV Farm
Nwoya 20MW Solar Project
Nwoya 20MW Hybrid Solar + 50MWh BESS — This landmark project is a testament to our innovative approach. Located in Agung Village, Nwoya District, Northern Uganda, the project features; Solar PV: 20 MW AC / 25 MWp DC, Battery Energy Storage System: 20 MW / 50 MWh (Lithium Iron Phosphate technology), Grid Connection: 6.5 km transmission line to the upgraded Olwiyo 400kV Substation, Dispatchable Power: The BESS allows us to shift solar energy from the midday peak to the evening demand peak (6:00 PM – 8:30 PM), ensuring a reliable supply when the grid needs it most. Grid Stability Services: The BESS provides synthetic inertia, frequency regulation, and voltage support, making the national grid more resilient. Agrivoltaic Model: The project integrates poultry, goats, soybeans, and cowpeas cultivated under and between the solar panels, optimizing land use and supporting local food security.
Hydro Dam
Run-of-River Hydro Projects
Hydropower is the backbone of Uganda's grid. According to ERA, Uganda's installed hydro capacity stands at 1,023.59 MW. We are committed to developing both large-scale and run-of-river hydro projects. Our robust project finance capabilities allow us to develop these capital-intensive projects, ensuring a stable and consistent source of base-load power. Uganda's Energy Transition Plan (ETP) and the national budget have prioritized projects like the 380-megawatt Kiba hydro-electricity plant, and we are positioned to participate in this expansion.

Our commitment to circular economy principles drives our interest in Waste-to-Energy. We are developing projects that convert municipal solid waste into valuable energy, tackling the growing waste management challenge while generating clean power.
Nuclear & Geothermal
Future Energy Technologies
We believe in looking ahead. Government has already allocated resources for preparatory work for nuclear energy generation at Buyende. While in early stages, we are conducting feasibility studies into nuclear energy, a technology known for its high reliability and long lifespan. We are also actively monitoring geothermal energy, a proven base-load renewable, with a focus on the significant potential in the region.
Grand Energy Company Ltd is a full-service energy partner. We offer a range of integrated project delivery models to meet the specific financial and operational needs of our clients and partners, ensuring seamless execution from concept to operation.
We provide comprehensive EPC services for power plants of all types and scales. Our team of experienced engineers and project managers handles everything from detailed design and procurement of high-quality equipment to construction, installation, and commissioning. We deliver turnkey, fixed-price, date-certain contracts, providing our clients with certainty on cost and schedule. Our EPC portfolio includes a wide range of energy technologies, from solar PV and BESS to thermal, hydro and waste-to-energy plants.
We understand that financing is often the biggest hurdle to energy development. Our EPC+F model combines our world-class construction capabilities with tailored financing solutions. We partner with a consortium of commercial banks and development finance institutions (DFIs) to provide the capital required for your project, de-risking the investment and accelerating the path to power. This model can take various forms including equity financing (where we co-invest in a project company), debt financing (providing loans), or deferred payment arrangements. Our proven ability to structure bankable projects showcases the strength of this model.
The BOT model is ideal for clients seeking to develop critical energy infrastructure without long-term operational responsibility. Grand Energy Company Limited can Build, Finance, design, and construct the power plant, Own and operate the facility for a concession period (typically 20-25 years), selling the power under a long-term PPA and at the end of the concession, transfer the fully operational plant to the client or government partner, ensuring a seamless transition.
For clients who prefer to retain ownership but require expert project management, our EPCM+F model is the perfect solution. Engineering & Procurement: We manage the complete design and procurement process, ensuring technical excellence. Construction Management: We oversee the construction on your behalf, managing all contractors and sub-contractors to ensure quality, safety, and schedule adherence. The EPCM contractor manages the project and recommends subcontractors, who then contract directly with the client. Financing: We can arrange the project financing, allowing you to leverage our strong relationships with financial institutions to secure favorable terms.
At Grand Energy Company Limited, sustainability is the core of our business strategy. We are committed to generating clean energy that not only powers Uganda's growth but also protects its natural environment and elevates its communities.
